GENERAL PTO / EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING

Call to Order 

  • In attendance: Keri Williams, Mindy Bates, Kelly Harrison, Jen Turner, Maria Whittkopf & Lisa Stolper

Principal’s Report: Lisa Stolper - Track is in progress, we are excited about the documentary that is going to be presented, Bully’s Surf School. Bully, his wife and two others will be here to present to the kids and answer questions. The PTO discussed catering lunch for them. Lisa is reaching out to ask their preferences. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 6th - 10th.

 

Presidents’ Report: Keri Williams - voting in any new board and committee members will need to happen before the end of the year, we can always do that thru email as needed. We still need a grants person and a VP.

 

Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Swink 

  • Bank balance is $29,720, $4,477 of which is the Edding memorial fund. 
  • Cougar Nights income and expenses will be presented in April financial reports
  • 8th grade celebration checks are coming in, Della is documenting as they come in and i'm collecting checks to deposit weekly.
  • Trivia Night profits were good! We made $4,180.83
    • Ms. Edding’s memorial benches cost nearly $3,500 so we will have $977 remaining.
    • We will look into a flowering tree or planters next to the bench.
  • I'll file Q1 sales tax by April 25th, taxes on TN admission sales will be paid in this quarter
  • We are on target with our budget for the year

 

Secretary’s Report: Kelly Harrison

  • Had a team of moms piece together the alpha lit “LKMS” sign for the school to use for years to come! They are currently being stored in a closet off of the library.

School Activities VP Report: Mindy Bates

  • PTO gives a  $1k scholarship to a LKMS alumni who is graduating from West and going to college. It falls under the 8th grade party committee, should we move this to another category?
  • Cougar Night: 289 tickets sold, about 100 less than last time. Planning for the next one to be in October so they can wear their halloween costumes as well as March to avoid conflicts with Ramadan. 

 

8th Grade Farewell: Maria Whittkopf (Mindy Bates is unable to be in attendance)

  • The details for the Celebration and Ceremony were released to parents.
  •  The Celebration is at Main Event on Wednesday, May 22 and the Celebration Ceremony is on Thursday, May 23rd. 
  • They will have time to rehearse for the ceremony at the end of the celebration day. 
  • So far we have 77 students signed up and paid for. 
  • We have a Charlie’s Car Wash fundraiser in progress, details to come. 
  • The BVW Scholarship fund.

 

Diversity Council Liaison - Angela Mosby:

  • The LKMS Diversity Council will be hosting a Multicultural Festival on Wednesday, May 1st from 6 pm - 7:30 pm to celebrate our rich diversity here at Lakewood. This event features tasting, crafts and dance performances. 
  • They are currently collecting gift cards to ethnic restaurants

School Support VP Report: Kelly Capps (Kelly unable to be in attendance)

Restaurant Nights - Vanessa Valdez-Horne:

  • 4/16/24 Culver’s (pending approval)
  • 5/7/24 Torchy’s, 4-8pm

School Supplies - Cali Gee:

  • Finalized the supply lists in mid-March, and had promotional materials sent to the school as well as sharing the e-marketing links. 
  • The store is now up and the links running in the Cougar Connection
  • About 75 kits sold thus far.

Staff Meals - Chriss Duntz and Alison Sherman

  • The schedule for the upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week May 6-10.
  • Della will be taking Mon and Wed and PTO has Tues, Thurs and Fri.
  • Tues, May 7th we will have a Dessert/Candy/Snack Bar

            *I’ll need a few more big glass containers. If you have any that we could use please let me know.

  • Wed, May 8th Della will provide pizza, I’ll be picking up Sonshine Bakery Cookies for their dessert.
  • Thurs. May 9th We’ll have a fresh fruit bar. I’ll make a signup genius for this part.
  • Fri, May 10th We’ll have ice cream from The Golden Scoop
  • We will also provide lunch for the staff on the last day of school, May 24th. Jalapeños will be catering. The teachers love them and they do a phenomenal job for us. It’s also very quick to eat and the teachers usually have a long list to complete before they check out.
