LAKEWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL 

GENERAL PTO / EXECUTIVE BOARD MEETING 

Time: April 10, 2025 @ 1:15 PM Central Time

Call to Order: In attendance: Robin Jensen, Keri Williams, Lisa Stolper, Erin Dunlap, Kelly Harrison, Andy Schlie, Mansi Sharma

Presidents’ Report: President’s items:

We have Spring Cougar Fest on Monday, April 14 3:30 - 6 pm..  It is the first home track meet against Harmony Middle School.  We will have food trucks, games, music, spirit wear, and chalk the walk.  

The Multicultural Festival is on Tuesday, April 15.  We are  looking for more families to participate.  

We have the 8th Grade Celebration fundraiser at Chicken N Pickle on Tuesday, April 15 from 6 - 8 pm 10% goes back to the 8th Grade Celebration fund. 

May 5 -  is Teacher Appreciation Week. The front office sent an email requesting a $25 gift card donation(s) that they can distribute to the teachers.  

Our PTO appreciation happy hour is May 8 at 5 pm at Firebirds, 6601 W 135th St. Overland Park, KS, 66223. An RSVP is coming soon. 

Open PTO Positions for next year are ELA Book Support, School Supply Support, and Teacher Appreciation Chairs.

Meetings for next year’s PTO have been set for the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 10 am. The meetings will be August 19th, September 9th, October 14th, November 11th, January 13th, February 10th, April 14th, and May 12th. Mark your calendar!

Cougar Connection, the welcome back to school event is scheduled for July 31st. Jenny has already reached out to Paula (spirit wear) to mark her calendar. Follow up is needed before this event.

Treasurer’s Report: Cathy Swink - Will follow up with us on scheduling next year’s budget meeting before the end of the year. We will need to add Fall Cougar Fest and Field Day as additional expenses for next year. 

• Bank account has $29k after year end expenses are accounted for. 
• All expenses for CN and TN are ledgered. 
• Once grant prices are available, will provide cost analysis to help decide what PTO can fulfill.

• Diversity Council Liaison - Angela Mosby - Calling all cultures! The Lakewood Middle School Multicultural Festival is returning Tuesday, April 15th from 6:00-7:30 pm in the LKMS Commons! School Fundraising  VP Report: The events Erin is working on for next year:

• Bingo Loco November Thursday, November 13th
• Kendra Scott Shop Night December 2025 (exact date TBD)
• Mouse Derby February 20th (pending venue and our “mouse guy” approval) 
• End of the year Field Day/Fun or Color Run May 15th (we need to discuss where to put this, under School Activities?)

School Support VP Report:

• Teacher Grants - Shannon Maker - We will be reviewing the grant requests. Hopefully you had time to preview them in the email Keri sent out on Monday. She will send out a google form to capture our votes after this meeting and once we have Lisa’s approval.  

Thank you so much to everyone on the board!  We couldn’t have raised the funds to be able to offer grants if it wasn’t for all of you and your hard work this year!  It is very exciting!

• School Supplies - Cali Gee - Our store is officially open with sales of 33K in the first week. The first advertisement was also included in the Cougar Connection newsletter. New marketing materials have been shared with Dr. Stolper for the coming week. I am working on writing up the school supply procedure for the next PTO resource, as my daughter will be moving to BV West next school year. These are with the $2 fundraising included.

  • 8th - $90.99

• Staff Meals - Crissy Wright & Alison Sherman -There is a sign up genius that went out to collect gift cards for teacher appreciation week.
  •  We are hoping for 60 gift cards.
  • Teacher appreciation week is May 5th-9th.
  • Monday – grab & go snacks (signup genius for parents will go out soon)
  • Tuesday – Twisters (LKMS funds) 
  • Wednesday – pizza & salad (LKMS funds) 
  • Thursday – $25 amazon gift cards (signup genius for parents) 
  • Friday – Bee Rae’s breakfast food truck (PTO funds)
  • Last day of school will be Jose Peppers lunch.
